Akwa United defeated Plateau United 1-0 on Sunday in matchday four of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, thus condemning the coach Fidelis Ilechukwu to their second loss in four games.

The match which was played at the newly built Eket Stadium saw James Ajako's 82nd-minute goal separate the two sides after 90 minutes.

Akwa United consolidated on the good job done last Sunday when they deflated Nasarawa United by 3-0 away from home.

The Deji Ayeni boys now have seven points, the same with Enyimba in third but with an inferior goal difference.

With Remo Stars losing their game against the group leader on Saturday, the battle for the 3rd spot is just starting as Akwa United and Enyimba are just two points behind Remo Stars in the 2nd position.

It was a blow to coach Fidelis Ilechukwu's ambition to return to the continent as the Jos base too is still searching for the second victory and is now placed fifth on the log with just 4 points in four games.
