NPFL: Rivers United beats Katsina United and gets news date to play Remo Stars

 

Rivers United boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over Katsina United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Thursday night.

The hosts head coach, Stanley Eguma, kept the same side that defeated Rangers last weekend.

Former Remo Stars forward, Deputy Echeta headed the hosts in front from Andy Okpe’s cross a minute before the break.

Kazie Enyinnaya applied a perfect finish to Okpe’s pass to give Rivers United a two-goal cushion nine minutes from time.

The win takes Rivers United up to 12th place on the standings ahead of their short trip for the next match week to Yenagoa, where they face Bayelsa United in a South-South derby on Monday.

Katsina United will also travel to Aba to play against champions Enyimba this Sunday in a matchday 32 fixture.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Premier Football League has rescheduled the matchday 21 tie between Rivers United and Remo Stars.

The game has been scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 5.

The match was initially postponed due to Rivers United’s CAF Confederation Cup engagement.

The NPFL chief operating officer, Davidson Owumi disclosed this in a memo sent to the two clubs.

The encounter is billed for the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

Rivers United are unbeaten in their last four games in the league.

Also, Sporting Lagos has expressed the players’ readiness for the Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 32 fixture against Abia Warriors.

The modest side will host the Umuahia-based club at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan on Sunday.

Sporting Lagos continued their training ahead of the game on Thursday.

“Back on the grind, The boys are pumped and ready to go again,” reads a message on the club’s X handle.

“Catch us this weekend on another exciting Sunday with Sporting.”

Sporting Lagos occupy 14th position on the NPFL table with 38 points.
