Osimhen loves Napoli, decries AED comments, prefers MLS to Saudi league, dread Romero and Smalling

Recuperating Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that he feels very comfortable in the city of Napoli and that he values playing in the MLS than the Saudi Pro League.

The in-form striker also talked about his relationship with the president of Napoli and the defenders he dreads.

Recent weeks have fuelled speculation about the Nigerian’s future at the club after he managed to stay at the Partenopei in the summer.

He was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but it didn’t materialise, as contract talks took place but they never turned into him signing a new deal at the club.

He has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in the past, but his future remains uncertain.

Osimhen spoke to TV Play in an interview recently and he revealed that he feels comfortable in Napoli.

“For me already being a player at this level is a dream. If it [Ballon D’or] were to arrive it would be fantastic, but it’s not an obsession. I feel very comfortable in Napoli. Scoring is always a thrill, more so doing it at the Maradona.”

The Nigerian was asked about the Saudi Pro League and he said: “It’s on the rise, it attracted a lot of talent last summer and a lot of players went there.”

When asked about whether he would prefer the MLS or the Saudi Pro League, Osimhen said: “Under the same conditions, the United States.”

The 24-year-old is currently injured and is likely to be out for about four more weeks, but he has scored six times already in the Serie A.

Osimhen is also reportedly unimpressed by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ recent statements regarding the contract renewal talks.

The Partenopei president, who is no stranger to controversy, recently hinted to the media that the Nigerian striker had changed his mind after agreeing to the terms of a new contract with the club, saying: “If after a handshake things change, that is disappointing”.

Osimhen has less than two years left on his contract with Napoli and a new deal is starting to look increasingly unlikely.

Osimhen and his agent Roberto Calenda do not appreciate De Laurentiis’ recent comments and no new date has been set to continue contract negotiations.

Osimhen also named the two strongest defenders he has faced in his career.

According to him, Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Romero and Chris Smalling of Roma are tough opponents to play against.

In an interview on TV Play with Mario Balotelli and Emiliano Viviano for Twitch, Osimhen recounted some of the highlights during his time in Italy.

When the Super Eagles star was asked about the hardest defenders he has faced, he replied: “Romero [from Tottenham, ex-Atalanta] is a really good defender. I had some difficult moments dealing with him.

“The other defender is Smalling – one of the strongest I’ve come across.”
