Perez to boycott El Clasico due to racist about Vini Jr. comment by Barcelona director

A lot has been happening for Barcelona and Real Madrid over the last week, since the end of the international break.

Los Blancos could only muster up a 1-1 draw vs Sevilla on their return, while Barcelona closed the gap in La Liga to just a point with a win against Athletic Club courtesy of a winner from debutant Marc Guiu.

However, as things moved to the Champions League, Madrid put things in third gear, and came back with a 1-3 win against SC Braga for the third gameweek of the group stages.

During the game against Sevilla, Vinicius Jr was once again a target of racist remarks from the Sevilla fans, who were making monkey noises while pointing at the Brazilian.

The Madrid superstar released an official statement on the incident, as well, hoping the culprits will be reprimanded by the league officials.

Something much worse happened soon after, though, as Barcelona spokesperson Mikel Camps took to X during Braga vs Real Madrid and wrote:

“It’s not racism, he deserves a slap for being a clown and a joker. What do these unnecessary and meaningless bicycles represent in the centre of the field?”

This came on the back of a move by Vinicius which saw him attempt multiple step-overs against an opposition defender before an unsuccessful nutmeg attempt on another.

On the back of this, El Chiriguito have reported that Florentino Perez has refused to attend the Barcelona clash this weekend at the Saint Olympic Montjuic due to Camps’ words.

Rodrygo also criticised the tweet by Camps, saying, “The tweet by the Barça spokesman about Vinicius is lamentable.”

Barcelona have not taken any action against the board member so far, but their hand could be forced if the news regarding Perez’s attendance becomes official soon.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have apologised to Vinicius Jr. after one of their club directors dismissed the racial abuse the Real Madrid star has received and said he ‘deserves a slap’.

He told Movistar: ‘If Vinicius is listening to me, I want to say that this will not be repeated. Even if it was a mistake, it should not have been posted. It was an inappropriate [post].’

Barcelona boss Xavi has attempted to cool tensions ahead of El Clasico, saying: ‘If he [Camps] deleted it, there is no need for me to say anything.

‘I don’t like anything that generates tension, whether it’s trying to condition referees or this tweet. We need a Clasico with fair play and with mutual admiration.’
