Napoli, Osimhen fail to agree on contract renewal as PSG offer Eagles striker €10M+ per year

The meeting between Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis and the agent of Victor Osimhen on Friday was deadlocked as both parties failed to agree on conditions for a new deal.

According to Sky Italia Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda was present and the meeting was a relaxed and peaceful one, with De Laurentiis offering to extend the Nigerian’s contract beyond the current expiry of 2025.

De Laurentiis informed Calenda that any potential suitors will have to match the €150 million asking price whereas the current suitors can’t offer more than €100 million so far.

When it comes to a potential renewal, an agreement was not reached. Napoli’s offer is not in line with what the player wants, with Osimhen knowing that he would earn a higher wage if he joins another club.

The next step will involve Osimhen meeting Calenda and informing him about the developments.

Further meetings between all the parties are also expected to take place to decide the 24-year-old’s future in Naples.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester United seem to have cool their interest in the Eagles stiker but PSG are ready to lodge an extremely wealthy bid for Osimhen.

The French powerhouse could tender €120/125M plus sizeable bonuses, reaching the €150M threshold. The Nigerian marksman would earn €10M+ per year. Director Luis Campos, who previously brought him to Lille, is a big fan.

PSG signalled their plan to go after Osimhen but hasn’t taken formal steps yet.

They lost Lionel Messi, and the future of Kylian Mbappé and Neymar hangs in the balance, which makes them a considerable threat. They are in the hunt for a prolific center-forward after Marcus Thuram snubbed them.

According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno (via FootballNews24), the Azzurri chairman will attempt to hold on to his ace by offering a new deal and raising his salary to €6M per year.

He’s already the highest-paid player in the squad and one of the few exceptions to their strict salary policy.

Napoli keeping him would be a great show of strength for the Scudtto winners. They have to hope he’s not lured by the sirens, as they don’t have a ton of leverage.

An extension envisaging a somewhat reasonable release clause could be an apt compromise.

However, after the shocking Sandro Tonali deal, Serie A’s copycat nature shouldn’t be underestimated. More teams might look to cash in on their talents not to miss out on the opportunity to be financially set for a few years.
