Rangers suffered a blow in their title bid, going down to a 2-0 defeat against Rivers United in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

Alex Oyowah and Deputy Echeta scored the two goals for Rivers United in the game.

Rangers maintained the top position on the table despite the defeat.

Defending champions Enyimba kept their dreams of winning a record tenth title alive after they held Sunshine Stars to a 1-1 draw in Akure.

Promise Awosanmi gave Sunshine Stars the lead a minute after the break, while Chidiebere Nnachi equalised for the visitors 19 minutes from time.

Lobi Stars and Bendel Insurance battled to a 0-0 draw at the Lafia City Stadium.

Meanwhile, Enyimba technical adviser, Finidi George has described his team’s 1-1 draw against Sunshine Stars as difficult.

“The game against Sunshine Stars was a difficult one,” he told the club’s media.

“The game was equal and I think the draw was a good one, both teams wanted to win without a lot of chances but I think the result was a good one for both teams.

“We will build on the result going forward in the league.”

Also, Abia Warriors head coach, Bethel Oji has confessed his team laboured to a 1-0 win over Bayelsa United.

Samson Obi’s late-minute strike secured the win for the hosts.

“It wasn’t an easy task, Bayelsa United are a very big side having played on the continent with good players and good tradition,” he stated in a post-match interview.

“Our tactical changes gave us an edge in the game.”

Abia Warriors occupy 11th position on the table with 41 points after 30 games.
