With eight medals, three gold medals, one silver and four bronze medals, already in the bag, Team Nigeria General Coordinator at the ongoing Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Yussuf Alli is optimistic that the contingent will meet its medals projection.

Nigeria is currently 10th on the medal table with Australia leading.

Alli, a gold medallist in the long jump at the Commonwealth Games said his aim is lead Team Nigeria to surpass its performances in previous games,

“Before the weekend I am expecting a harvest of medals in athletics, wrestling and other sports that we are participating in here. Our aim is to surpass Team Nigeria’s medal count at previous Commonwealth Games and use our success here to lay the foundation for success in Paris 2024 Olympic Games”

Alli revealed that his task of ensuring Team Nigeria succeed in Birmingham has been made easy by the Sports Minister Sunday Dare.

‘’ Apart from the support he gave us in preparation in Nigeria and elsewhere, the Sports Minister has also ensured that all the athletes and officials participating in this games have been paid, so there is no distraction, we are here fully focused on winning medals’’.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s newest track sensation and World Record holder in the women’s 100-meter hurdles Tobi Amusan is in Birmingham for the ongoing Common Wealth Games.

A lot of fans trooped into Alexandra stadium waiting to watch the young vibrant lady prove herself once again.

Amusan came in with a record time of 12.12 seconds, beating Kendra Harrison’s 2016 record of 12.20 by 0.8 of a second during the just-ended World Championship in Oregon.

One of the fans Shelly Mark told SportsDay,” I am here this morning with my children to watch Nigerian Tobi Amusan. She is a wonderful athlete my kids want to cheer her up to another victory.
