Real Madrid believe Luka Modric will end his career with them as boss Carlo Ancelotti squashed talk of the veteran leaving this summer.

The Croatian midfielder left Tottenham for Real Madrid back in 2012 but will become a free agent in June.

Modric, 36, is wanted by Newcastle United’s new Saudi owners.

And even Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been linked with the ace.

However, after he produced an incredible assist to help Real dump Chelsea out of the Champions League, his manager is adamant his star is going nowhere.

Ancelotti said: “Luka Modric will finish his career here at Real Madrid.

“I don’t know when but it will happen - this is the idea of the club and Luka.”

The Italian added: “Modric won't have problems renewing the contract - I compare him to Paolo Maldini.”

Modric is expected to renew talks with the LaLiga side over a new one-year extension before the end of the campaign.

He has played 428 times for the club since his arrival a decade ago.

During that period the ace has helped them to lift the Champions League four times as well as the Spanish top-flight twice.

He has also won the Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup three times each and the Copa del Rey.
