Atletic Bilbao star Inaki Williams proved he’s a man for all seasons by making it six years without missing one single LaLiga match.

Williams, 27, achieved the remarkable feat on Sunday when he started in Bilbao’s 2-0 home defeat to Celta Vigo.

The versatile forward, capped once by Spain, was last absent for a LaLiga fixture on April 17, 2016.

Since then, Williams has played in every single possible league match.

That makes for an incredible grand total of 227 consecutive games - 189 of which he started.

The previous record had belonged to Real Sociedad legend Juanan Larranaga, who played 202 consecutive league matches between 1986 and 1992.

But Williams surpassed that total on October 1, 2021, when he started in Bilbao’s 1-0 win against Alaves.

Williams, who joined the Basque side in 2012 when he was 18 years old, has made a total of 265 LaLiga appearances for his team, scoring 52 times.

And with his contract running until 2028, Williams could be set to extend that incredible tally of 227 consecutive league appearances by quite some margin.

Bilbao currently sit eighth in the table, four points away from a European spot.

And with seven LaLiga goals to his name this term, Williams is Bilbao’s top scorer.

The pacy striker has previously been linked with Liverpool.

And he claimed Manchester United tried signing him before he penned a nine year contract with Bilbao in 2019.

Williams, who has a £120million release clause, said: “I had contact from Manchester United but I cannot tell you who it was.

“My number one option has always been to stay at Athletic Club and to retire here.

"Joining Real Sociedad? No, I could never go there. 100 per cent.”
