Former Liverpool star Don Hutchison has questioned why Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool or Erk ten Hag’s Manchester United haven’t signed Super Eagles Napoli’s ‘world-beater’ Victor Osimhen.

The former Liverpool midfielder thinks the Reds should have signed Osimhen instead of Darwin Nunez, whilst he pointed out that, whilst the Serie A superstar thrives in Italy, those at Old Trafford were bringing Wout Weghorst to the club.

Every time the transfer window opens – whether it’s in January or the summer – it seems as though near-on every team needs a goalscorer of some sort.

Osimhen is one of the top talents in Europe today and the 24-year-old could be about to help Napoli create history by winning the Serie A title for the first time in over 30 years.

From his 14 league games this season, he has 12 goals, including netting a brace and an assist as Napoli savaged strugglers Juventus recently.

Hutchison can’t stop purring about the player and he thinks he would be very much suited to Liverpool and Man United, as he told ESPN.

“This is not a dig at Manchester United, but on the night that he scores two and on the night he tore Juve defenders to shreds, Manchester United spend £2.6 million on Wout Weghorst,” said Hutchison.

“That tells you where United are at. That’s the sort of player, if they are doubly serious, if they want to win the league again. That is the sort of player you should be spending £150 million on. He’s a world-beater.

“They haven’t got the money. They are a billion pounds in debt and Napoli wouldn’t let him go, but maybe in the summer.

“The lad is world-class. He plays the game like no other centre forward. Why are Man United not signing him? Why are Liverpool not signing him instead of Darwin Nunez?! If I love him and you love him, then why isn’t Jurgen Klopp not signing him before Nunez? Why is ten Hag not signing him? The kid is a world-beater. He is the best number nine in world football.”

The Premier League heavyweights are the two biggest clubs in England – and at the same time – their American owners have put them up for sale.

It will be interesting to see what effect that has on the transfer business that is conducted.

Liverpool have already spent on Cody Gakpo, so it seems FSG are willing to put their hand in their pockets, but would they push the boat out like Chelsea have done on a few players? The answer is probably no.

Meanwhile, Roberto Calenda, the agent of Napoli star Osimhen, confirmed his client’s happiness at the club and desire to ‘give a dream to a city he loves’.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Calenda discussed the interest in Osimhen and his client’s focus on the title race with Napoli.

“Victor is fine, he is happy and perfectly integrated with the fans. At the stadium he is the first to party, to dance with the fans. His goal is to win with this team and give a dream to a city he loves. That is all there is to it.

“Victor is a natural talent, physically devastating, I think the key is consistency. He was penalised by injuries and now he can express his potential calmly.

“He is working well with the team, understanding and harmony are growing, and with Spalletti’s advice he is constantly improving. He is in the midst of maturing.”

Spalletti’s Napoli are on track to win their first Scudetto since the days of Diego Maradona. They currently sit nine points clear of second place Milan and 10 points clear of Juventus, giving them a comfortable cushion heading into the second half of the season.
