Nigeria born Roma striker Tammy Abraham has hailed the efforts of his Roma teammates after claiming the Europa Conference League trophy, saying the Giallorossi were ultimately deserved winners.

The Nigerian who plays for England may not have found the back of the net in the final but his tireless performance in the attack was significant in Roma securing a 1-0 win over Feyenoord in Tirana.

And his role in Roma making history by lifting a first continental trophy in their history cannot be underplayed, with Abraham ending the season with nine goals in the competition - just one behind the tournament's highest scorer.

It represents a remarkable first year in Rome for the 24-year-old.

"One thing I said when I came here was that I'm going to help my team get to a final and one day I'm going to win a trophy. In my first season, I've achieved that," said Abraham moments after the final whistle.

"Credit to my teammates, and some excellent performances - a great goal by Nico [Zaniolo] , Chris [Smalling] at the back, the whole team deserved it. We've worked hard all year - Campioni per sempre!"

As well as showing off his Italian, Abraham paid homage to the travelling Giallorossi support and was clearly looking forward to celebrating the club's victory with them.

"I love [the fans], I love them," he added.

"From day one when I got here, it's been the best. I'm happy to be part of the team and now it's time to party, to celebrate!"

Four Roma players including Abraham made the Europa Conference League Team of the Season.

Chris Smalling, who was named Man of the Match in the Final, is also present along with goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Even though they lost the Final, Feyenoord had five players in the Team of the Season, as they had been unbeaten since the group phase.

Roma had never won a formal UEFA tournament before, as the Fairs Cup in the 1960s was not recognised.

They had reached the Final of the UEFA Cup and European Cup, a precursor to the Champions League, losing in 1991 and 1984 respectively.
