Mohamed Salah ended his six game goals drought on Tuesday as he scored twice in the 4-0 demolition of Manchester United at Anfield.

The big win has seen Liverpool momentarily shoot back to the number one position on the English Premier League table ahead of Manchester City who will be in action on Wednesday

Trailing fierce rivals, Manchester City by a point before kickoff, Liverpool players understood the task in their hands and they delivered well with two first half goals and two more in the second half to stay in contention to reclaim the Premier League title.

Luiz Diaz set the tone for what proved to be another ruthless outing for the Reds as he put the hosts in front just five minutes into the game.

The calamity that would befall United was already evident when Paul Pogba pulled off injured in the 10th minute with Jesse Lingard taking his place.

Some fear, that maybe Pogba's last game for United depending on the extent of his injury.

But while United were ruing thier further depleted team, Salah popped up with a beautiful goal that saw take a 2-0 lead into the break.

 

Aside from the scoreline, United they were clear underdogs for Tuesday's clash at Anfield having won just four points from three games against Leicester, Everton and Norwich since their return from the international break. 

United just about managed to beat relegation-threatened Norwich 3-2 at Old Trafford at the weekend

Though the Red Devils tried to muster a comeback in the second half, the Reds were just too good for them as Sadio Mane increased Liverpool's advantage to 3-0 before Salah sealed victory late in the game.

With Tuesday's win, Jurgen Klopp's side remain in contention to win an unprecedented quadruple having beaten Manchester City to a place in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.
