Tongues are waging among football buffs as Victor Osimhen teammate Kvicha Kvaratskhelia was named Serie A MVP but he failed to make the Italian league team of season which Osimhen made.

On Friday Kvaratskhelia has been named Serie A MVP of the 2022-23 season and his Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti is the best coach.

Although the Georgia international was not included in the Team of the Season, that’s largely because his role is not quite a striker and not quite a winger.

The Lega Serie A calculated the MVP awards based on Stats Perform calculations and picked Ivan Provedel of Lazio as best goalkeeper, Kim Min-Jae of Napoli as best defender, midfielder Nicolò Barella of Inter and Osimhen as the best striker.

However, Kvaratskhelia stands out as Serie A MVP of the season thanks to 12 goals and 13 assists in 33 games.

He inherits the title from Rafael Leao, who took it for Milan last season.

Inevitably, Coach of the Season also goes to Napoli and Spalletti, who took them to their first Serie A title since the days of Diego Armando Maradona in 1990.

Napoli were top of the table from start to finish and won the Scudetto with five rounds to spare.

Serie A have named their Players of the Season, including  Osimhen, Nicolò Barella, Kim Min-jae, Nicolò Fagioli and Ivan Provedel.

The best midfielder award goes to Inter man Barella, who was preferred to Adrien Rabiot of Juventus and Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Lazio’s Ivan Provedel is the best goalkeeper ahead of Michele Di Gregorio of Monza and Bologna’s Lukasz Skorupski.

There is also a separate award for best Under-23 Italian player, which went to Juventus youth product Fagioli, beating Empoli’s Tommaso Baldanzi and Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.
