Pioli advised to give Chukwueze more starts as Tomori must be wary in Milan’s match against Sassuolo

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has gone from strength to strength in recent weeks and against Sassuolo, the winger should get the chance from the start. Indeed, AC Milan should make the most of his recent form, perhaps by starting him against Roma as well.

As highlighted by MilanNews, Chukwueze has certainly come to life after what was a tough start to the season. Coming off the bench against Roma last time out, he created the best chance of the game after some great dribbles, delivering the ball on a silver platter for Olivier Giroud, who somehow missed.

Sunday, taking on Sassuolo away from home, the Nigerian is set to get the chance from the start on the right flank. With the reserves playing up front, he will need to lead the line and help Milan create chances, which he can do so well.

In the event of positive performance, it will almost be impossible for Pioli not to consider him for a starting spot against Roma. His creativity will be needed as Roma likely will play with a low line in front of their home fans, and with a 1-0 aggregate lead in the bag.

What was an easy decision in the first half of the season has now become very difficult. Therefore, Pioli might even have to opt for a Lecce-esque solution, starting both Chukwueze and Christian Pulisic in the attacking trio.

Meanwhile, Fikayo Tomori who is expected to play from the start in AC Milan’s clash against Sassuolo, has returned from suspension. However, he must be very careful to avoid another one, which would keep him on the sidelines for the derby,

Tomori served a suspension in the Europa League on Thursday evening and while Milan’s defensive display wasn’t terrible, with above all Matteo Gabbia stepping up, he was still missed. On Sunday afternoon, as the Rossoneri take on Sassuolo, he should be back from the start.

The Englishman has received four yellow cards in the league this season and as a result, he’s just one card away from suspension. It’s something that he will desperately try to avoid as a suspension would keep him out of action for the important derby.

Milan has options for the center-back position, but none of them have the same characteristics as Tomori. Gabbia and Simon Kjaer, for example, are much more similar style-wise while Malick Thiaw is a mix of these two and Tomori.

In short, Tomori must avoid a yellow card at all costs and it remains to be seen how Pioli will handle the matter. Perhaps he could be subbed off earlier than he otherwise would be.
