Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five football tournament unarguably the biggest Five-a-side tournament has made its comeback this year 2022. 

With a different set of competition guides, Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five is a football tournament that sees players compete in a unique footballing format. 

There are no goalkeepers and an opposing player is eliminated every time a team scores. 

Each match is 10 minutes long or lasts until one team loses all its players. 

The finals of the 2022 edition will take place in Qatar with winners of the 2021 and 2022 editions participating.

The road to Qatar 2022 Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five tournament started in March at the Crescent University, Abeokuta.

 The Abeokuta qualifiers started March 12, 2022 with a32 registered teams. 16 of the teams were from the University and the other half from outside the campus.

The clubs from the city and university qualifiers were combined, with some teams from the 2021 edition of Red Bull Neymar Jr’s five tournament also participating.

At the end of the Abeokuta qualifier, the two teams Viper FC and Totty FC emerged as winners of the tournament. Viper FC is from the University while Totty FC is from the city.

Viper FC are not new to the Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five tournament, they went as far as the quarterfinals in  2021, Balogun FC also got to the quarter-final stage before they were knocked out. 

The underdogs, Totty FC, gave us a great show, emerging as victors after their game was decided with a one-on-one match.

Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five tournament rain moved on to Port Harcourt qualifiers which saw 49 teams register.

The Port Harcourt qualifier produced four winners instead of two that Abeokuta produced. Two winners came from the university and two from Port Harcourt city.

The matches in Port Harcourt were more intense than the Abeokuta qualifiers. There were goals galore, dribbles and stylish football showcased.

The winners of the Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five in Port Harcourt qualifiers are Densports FC, Fantastic 8, Salvation Boys, and Bright strikers. These teams have earned their spot to compete at the national finals.

Who will be the ultimate champion, leading their team to the super final in Qatar?

That will be decided at the national finals in Lagos.
