Arsenal and Chelsea still keen on Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window

Despite not having a fantastic season like he did in 2022/23 Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is still being courted by many clubs in Europe especially EPL giants Arsenal and Chelsea.

Offering an update on Arsenal and their desire to sign the Eagles striker Charles Watts said,

“It’s no great secret that Arsenal want to sign a striker this summer. When the window opens it will be the priority, along with a midfielder and potentially another wide attacker.

“It will be interesting to see whether they move for Osimhen. He, like Ivory Toney, is a player they like and I know that his representatives have visited Arsenal’s training ground for talks with Edu.

“Those talks took place in the summer when Arsenal eventually signed Gabriel Jesus. Jesus was always the priority that year, but Osimhen was a player they viewed as a serious alternative. That interest will remain, but the Nigerian could prove to be too costly an option in a summer given Arsenal want to spread their budget around as they look to take the squad to the next level.”

At 25, Osimhen’s peak years are ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the North London club to consider this summer. All in all, Arteta would be wise to move in for him ahead of the new campaign.

Chelsea also remain interested in the services of Osimhen.

Despite having spent a fortune on player transfers over the past few windows, nothing much has changed at Chelsea. Their struggles have continued and they are now looking at ways to ensure they can revive themselves next season.

One of the major concerns for the Blues since the start of the season has been their performance in front of goal. While Cole Palmer has done extremely well for them, he hasn’t had much support.

As a result, Chelsea want to sign a world-class number nine in the summer and according to Rudy Galetti, they remain keen on having Osimhen in their squad.

Osimhen is Chelsea’s priority target to reinforce their attack. While talks have progressed quite slowly, the London club still consider him their main target. The Blues want to negotiate the terms of his release with Napoli but before they begin talks with the Italian outfit they need to address any FFP concerns.

The striker has a substantial release clause in his contract but Chelsea are hoping to pay in installments.

The London club do not have a healthy financial situation right now, after having spent a fortune on players since the takeover. They need to balance their books before making any major signings. As a result, they will focus on solving the existing issues before making a move for their top target Osimhen.
