Feyenoord coach desperate to become Liverpool’s next manager

The search for a new manager seems to have not lasted long for Liverpool. After confirming the impossibility of signing Xabi Alonso, and names such as Roberto De Zerbi or Rúben Amorim both being touted as Jürgen Klopp’s possible successor, it appears that the chosen one is Arne Slot.

And the coach himself is determined to push a deal through. As he explained on Thursday afternoon: “It’s no secret I want to go to Liverpool. Now I am waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement. I am confident that will happen. Feyenoord and Liverpool are in negotiations and I am awaiting the outcome. I am confident. I hope they reach an agreement.”

The 45-year-old Dutch coach has been very open about his intentions. However, he explains that he has to respect the negotiation between the two clubs because he has a contract with the Rotterdam-based club until June 2026. “In the coming days more things will become clearer,” he indicated. Liverpool and Feyenoord will have to reach an agreement for Slot to leave - most likely with some kind of compensation package for the Dutch club, who would have to begin the search for a replacement. But as far as Slot is concerned, there would be no problem with him.

Arne Slot has made a big impression in the Netherlands. He had a low-profile football career as an attacking midfielder with spells at Zwolle, Breda, and Sparta Rotterdam (in the First Division, but without reaching any great level). After several years in the lower categories and the coaching staff of several teams.

He joined AZ Alkmaar as head coach in 2019, impressing in his first season as he guided the team to qualify for the following edition of the Champions League. But his best results were with Feyenoord, who he joined in 2021. Since then, he has won an Eredivisie title, a KNVB Cup, and reached the final of the Europa Conference League in 2022.
