Super Eagles playmaker and Southampton new signing Joe Aribo insisted it was “really important” to be among his Saints teammates as soon as possible, as the St Mary’s side heads off on their pre-season training camp in Austria on Wednesday.

Aribo became the club’s fifth first-team summer recruit on Saturday, penning a four-year deal with a transfer fee from Rangers, said to be in the region of an initial £6million.

The Nigeria international arrived through the doors at Saints in time for their trip to the lakeside resort of Velden am Worthersee, where they will be based until July 20.

In that time, the south coast side will face a friendly against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s former club, RB Leipzig on Saturday.

They will then take on SK Klagenfurt on Monday.

Asked how important it was to be in the door with regards to integrating with the squad in Austria, Aribo told the club website: “It’s very important for me to be around the boys.

“We will be having double sessions out there, so I will get to know the boys, know everyone in the team. It’s really important.”
