Ghana international Joseph Paintsil believes that the departure of Paul Onuachu has affected KRC Genk’s campaign.

The Nigeria international left Genk for English side Southampton in January this year and the team has blown hot and cold as they eye the Belgian First Division A title.

Genk are placed at the top of the First Division A standings at the moment and they will soon face the best teams in the team in the playoffs.

Onuachu’s former Genk teammate, Paintsil believes the title would have been wrapped up before the postseason if Onauchu had stayed in the winter transfer window.

“We are not going to let Club Brugge become,” Paintsil told Nieuwsblad according to Ghana Soccer Net.

“If Onuachu were still here, we might have had a ten-point lead, and the playoffs wouldn’t have to be played.

Paintsil scored as Genk thrashed champions Club Brugge to maintain their place at the top of the table on Sunday.

“Club Brugge is always to be feared in the playoffs, but we believe that we will become champions,” the former Tema Youth attacker said.

“The disappointment would be great if we do not win, but I am convinced that I will not be disappointed.”

Paintsil, who has eight caps for Ghana, has netted 15 goals and provided 15 assists for Genk this season
