NPFL: Rivers flow unhindered again, beats Niger Tornadoes 3-2

After a harvest of bad performances on the field and the sacking of its long-time coach Stanley Eguma Rivers United has returned to winning way.

They defeated Niger Tornadoes 3-2 in a thrilling contest at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

The win boosted Rivers United’s hopes of a mid-table finish.

Captain Nyima Nwagua gave the home team the lead in the 15th minute.

Ekerette Udom doubled the advantage five minutes later. Niger Tornadoes fought back, with Clinton Jeptha reducing the deficit on the hour mark.

Rivers United regained their two-goal lead through Abubakar Adams two minutes later.

Bashir Usman ensured a nervy end to the game by halving the deficit 13 minutes from the end.

Rivers United moved to ninth place on the table following the win, while Tornadoes remain in 12th place.
