NFF presidential aspirants parade experiences but no track record of success
NFF Election

With incumbent NFF president, Amaju Pinnick not seeking another term, David Meshioye sheds more light on their highs and lows, candidates who are wooing delegates for votes for the next election slated for September 2022.

Nigeria is probably the only country in the world where what qualifies one for an elective position, promotion or appointment is just experiences on the job not your track of success on the job.

The long lists of candidates vying to succeed Amaju Pinnick as NFF President attest to this.

Let’s look at the candidates jostling to succeed Pinnick and their track records:

Mukhtar Adam Mohammed: He is the owner of the NNL side, FC Hearts, a club that prides itself on grooming talents for European clubs. He is one of the men jostling for the NFF hot seat. Mukhtar was one of two African representatives at the FIFA Fan Focus Group in Zurich, Switzerland in 2016.

This Vice-chairman of the FCT FA has been around the corridor of football administration for a long but one cannot point to any of his remarkable achievements since he joined the football family.

Christian Emeruwa

This certified safety and security expert is the head of Safety and Security at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and a member of the FIFA security team.

He is also working round the clock to succeed Pinnick as the next NFF President. He has never administered football at the top level or run a football. His only selling point is his wealth of experience around the football corridor of power and his claim of passion for the game at all levels.

 Fan Ndubuoke

This former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been a member of the football and sports family generally for decades. He did his best to keep Heartland afloat during his tenure as General manager of the club. A former SWAN President and once operated as Executive Chairman, Imo Sports Commission,

He seems to know a lot about Nigerian football having worked as a Member of the 5-man Presidential Task Force charged with the responsibility to qualify Super Eagles for the USA '94 World Cup.

Seyi Akinwumi

Known for his love and passion for the game, Akinwunmi would have been a perfect successor for Pinnick if he had been able to revive the Lagos State Football League or even the famed Lagos Principal Cup that used to be one of the best football developmental programs in the world.

Under Akinwumi Chairman Lagos FA Cup and Oba Cup are in comatose. Apart from experience which the current first vice-chairman of NFF who seems to be one of the leading contenders is bringing anything to the table.

Shehu Dikko

Dikko is the second Vice-President of the present NFF board and doubles as Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC) responsible for the management of the Nigerian Professional Football League. His track records as the league boss leave a lot to be desired as Nigerian Professional Football League continue to grow at snail's speed.

He has not done enough to tame the rising tide of hooliganism at match venues apart from banishing clubs to neutral grounds with heavy fines. While club administrators seem more celebrated than footballers in the league, the issue of players' welfare has not improved with clubs owing footballers backlogs of unpaid salaries.

Word was rife in Abuja that he has the backing of majority members of the board who want the power to return to the north after Pinnick's two tenure.

Amanze Uchegbulam

Uchegbulam selling point is that he is the most experience of all the contestants having served on the previous boards of NFF.

He may have served as a member of the CAF and FIFA Protocol Committees, but whether he will be accepted back into NFF remains to be seen.

Ibrahim Gusau

Chairman of Chairmen and Member of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau has a lot on his table already given his hunger to be in the scheme of things. He is one of the state chairmen eyeing Pinnick's job.

But he has not done much to develop football in Zamfara State with no top footballer emerging from the state when other states like Kaduna, Jos and Kano became the football talents factory of the northern states. NPFL side.
