Fury claimed he was robbed, and he wants immediate rematch
Former world champion Tyson Fury was unhappy as he gave his immediate reaction to suffering a defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed heavyweight title fight on Saturday.
Usyk came out on top as he defeated Fury by a split decision in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to add the WBC title to his WBA, WBO, and IBF crowns.
Fury gave his instant thoughts in the ring after the fight, and he felt that he had done enough to win and was robbed in the fight.
“I believe I won that fight. He won a few of the rounds but I won the majority of them and it was one of those decisions in boxing.
“We both put on a good fight, the best we could do. His country is at war, so people are siding with the country at war, but make no mistake, I won that fight. I will be back, we have a rematch clause.
“I’ll be back, I’ve got a rematch clause. For sure, we go back. Have a little rest up, spend some time with my family and we go again in October.”
Usyk dropped Fury in the ninth round after a barrage of shots, and while the Gypsy King managed to recover, it was Usyk who came out on top by a split decision, after the judges scored it 115-112 Usyk, 114-113 Fury, 114-113 Usyk.
It is believed that the rematch will not be for the undisputed titles though, with the IBF belt expected to become immediately vacant due to the mandatory status of Filip Hrgovic.
According to Fury, he won the majority of the rounds, and Usyk is enjoying sympathy because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“I’ll be back. I’ve got a rematch clause. I thank Jesus for all the victories he’s given me. I got a split-decision loss to a good little man, and I thank him again ... we ran it back in October. Good luck to Oleksandr, well done, God bless you.”
Indeed, a rematch clause is written into Fury’s contract, so a second showdown between the two is all but certain. Whether or not it happens in October remains to be seen, but the Fury vs. Usyk saga isn’t over just yet.
