Super Eagles and Napoli star Victor Osimhen will land in the Campania capital Wednesday night, ready to watch his team in their Champions League clash with Union Berlin.

The 24-year-old striker has missed the Partenopei’s last five consecutive matches after suffering a hamstring muscle injury in Nigeria’s friendly with Saudi Arabia on October 13.

Osimhen decided not to immediately return to Italy after suffering the injury and has been staying in Lagos. In the meantime, his contract situation continues to cause anxiety for Napoli and their president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

As reported by Il Mattino via TMW, Osimhen will land in Napoli ahead of the team’s Champions League clash with Union Berlin, ready to attend the match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

In the background, the tug-of-war regarding his new contract continues. The striker’s agent Roberto Calenda is not interested in another meeting with De Laurentiis until it becomes clear that his client’s demands will be met.

Osimhen will continue his recovery with Napoli and the club hope to have him back after the November international break.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea star Daniel Sturridge has expressed his admiration for Osimhen, who’s been linked as a possible transfer target for Chelsea.

Osimhen was one the world’s top players for the 2022/23 season, scoring 31 goals across all competitions en route to the Serie A title with Napoli.

He’s started this campaign in Naples with six goals from 10 appearances so far.

Sturridge, who was appearing as a pundit for Sky Sports, spoke glowingly about Napoli’s main frontman this week.

He thinks that the 24-year-old centre-forward could be the next superstar in attack to be a force in the Premier League.

“Victor Osimhen is probably the next one to say okay can this guy come in? We have seen what this guy can do for Napoli. The pace he has, the tenacity. He is a top player, I very much like him,” Sturridge told Sky Sports.

For now, Osimhen is still a Napoli player. He’ll soon be entering the final 18 months of his deal with the Italian club, though.

Chelsea’s name has cropped up fairly regularly in the transfer rumour mill when discussing the striker’s future.

Chelsea staff consider Osimhen to be a dream signing in attack at Stamford Bridge.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano said recently that Napoli will not entertain offers for Osimhen when the January transfer window opens in the New Year.
