NPFL: Chukwudi leads Ranger's destruction of Kano Pillars in Awka

Team captain, Chukwudi Nwaodu scored twice to help Rangers International to secure a comeback win as Kano Pillars were defeated by 4-1 at the Awka City Stadium on Saturday in a match day 5, of the Nigeria Premier Football League 2023/2024 season. 


The visitors under the immediate past coach of Rangers, coach Abdu Maikaba, took the lead after  10 minutes when Muhammad Yakubu stabbed home from close range to send a shock wave around the stadium.


Rangers striker Godwin Obaje restored parity 22 minutes from the penalty spot after a handball incident to end the first on 1-1 apiece.

It was Rangers all the way after the restart as team skipper, Chukwudi seized the initiative scoring twice in the 57 and 62 minutes respectively after Isaac Saviour gave Rangers the lead in 54 minutes to kill off the game barely after an hour.

" It was a great win, I am very happy for the goals I scored today and even much happier for the victory for our club", he told the club media.


With the win, Rangers now occupy the top spot of the twenty-team log with ten points from five matches, scoring ten goals and conceding six. 

Bender Insurance were held to a goalless draw at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, by visiting Akwa United while Gombe United pipped Plateau United by a lone goal at the Pantanmi Stadium. 

Action continues on Sunday in the Nigeria Premier Football League as six games will be played on Sunday.
