EPL: Chelsea misery continues, North London derby ends in score draw, Liverpool wins

Chelsea Coach Mauricio Pochettino’s torrid start to life at the club continued on Sunday as they lost to Aston Villa.

Ollie Watkins rifled his first Premier League goal of the season through the legs of Robert Sanchez with 17 minutes remaining of a lively contest at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to finish off a ruthless counter-attack and make it back-to-back away top-flight wins for Villa over Chelsea.

The goal-shy Blues played the final half an hour in west London with only 10 men after French right-back Malo Gusto’s initial yellow card for a bad challenge on compatriot Lucas Digne was rescinded and changed to red after referee Jarred Gillett was advised by the VAR to review the incident on the pitchside monitor.

Chelsea have now gone three consecutive matches without scoring after this defeat was preceded by a bore draw at Bournemouth and another dispiriting home loss to Nottingham Forest, with Axel Disasi’s emphatic header from a Raheem Sterling cross following a short corner on the stroke of half-time rightly disallowed for offside.

Pochettino’s men remain marooned in 14th place in the early table having lost three and won just one of their first six league matches of the new campaign.

Elsewhere in London, Heung-Min Son equalised twice for Tottenham Hotspur to earn Ange Postecoglou’s side a valuable draw away at North London rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners started the game brightly and went ahead after Bukayo Saka’s attempt was diverted into the net off of Cristian Romero for an own goal.

But Spurs grew into the half and grabbed a deserved equaliser through Son, who netted from close range after being played in by James Maddison.

Just after half-time, Arsenal were gifted a chance to retake the lead as they were awarded a penalty. A spot-kick was given after Romero was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Saka calmly converted from the penalty spot but Tottenham hit back pretty much straight from the kick-off. Jorginho was caught in possession by Maddison, who played in Son to score his second of the game.

Neither side were able to score a winner in the latter stages so the two teams share the points and remain unbeaten in the Premier League.

And in Liverpool, Darwin Nunez's evolution into a genuine number nine for Liverpool continues as his brilliant fourth goal of the season proved vital in securing a 3-1 home victory over West Ham.

The Uruguay international scored in back-to-back games for the first time since February as Jurgen Klopp's side made it five successive Premier League wins to move into outright second spot, behind champions Manchester City, with Arsenal and Tottenham drawing at the Emirates.

Captain Virgil van Dijk had spoken of the 24-year-old turning his potential into quality after the midweek Europa League win over LASK, in which Nunez scored a penalty but could have had a couple of others.

His rasping 60th-minute volley from an exquisite Alexis Mac Allister lofted pass restored their lead after Jarrod Bowen's diving header in the first half had cancelled out Mohamed Salah's penalty, his 12 goals in his last 13 appearances at Anfield.

Substitute Diogo Jota made the points safe late on as Liverpool scored at least three goals in their opening three home league games for only the second time in the last 43 years.
