The release clause inserted into the contract of Nigeria-born Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise has been removed.

According to The Athletics, the  £35million release clause was written into Olise’s deal in the summer of 2021 when he joined from Reading for £ 8 million.

Olise, 20, signed a five-year deal at Selhurst Park and became Patrick Vieira’s first signing as Palace manager.

The French U21 international, who is still eligible to play for Nigeria, has four goals and 10 assists in 43 appearances for the South Londoners.

Speaking on where he believes Olise prior to the 1-0 win over Southampton, Vieira said: “He can score more goals. He has to, and I expect him to score more goals.”

“Sometimes we forget how young he is.

“Coming from the Championship, he has to learn and he still has to learn a lot to be a Premier League player.

“He had a couple of steps back with injuries, but now he is in a really good place and now games will give him the experience, confidence and belief to keep growing as a player.”
