Chelsea 1- 4 Brentford: Four big mistakes made by Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel vs Brentford

The past weeks have been horrible for Chelsea off the pitch with the numerous sanctions placed on its old owners.

While the Blues appeared not to be affected by the off the pitch doings in the past, the reverse was the case on Saturday at the Bridge.

Chelsea were given a derby-day drubbing by their west London rivals Brentford, who romped to a stunning 4-1 win to clinch the capital bragging rights courtesy of a brilliant brace from Vitaly Janelt.

Antonio Rudiger stepped up to smash Chelsea into the lead in the 48th minute after a dull first half, but Janelt stunned Stamford Bridge by prodding Brentford level with his first goal just two minutes later.

And Eriksen finished a slick counter-attack in the 54th minute to cap a remarkable turnaround for the Bees. Janelt added his second on the hour before Yoane Wissa netted a fourth to wrap up a priceless win for the visitors.

Daily Star Sport takes a look at the big calls that Thomas Tuchel got wrong on a sobering afternoon at Stamford Bridge for the reigning European champions, who were embarrassed in their own backyard...

Tuchel's toothless attack
Not for the first time this season, Chelsea were let down by their toothless frontline. Despite controlling the game, Chelsea failed to make the most of their superiority on the ball, with the majority of Chelsea's attacking players - bar Hakim Ziyech - fading into obscurity.

Kai Havertz had managed to find a flurry of form prior to the international break, but even he showed no signs of continuing his purple patch against the Bees. More often than not, his inclusion has come at the expense of Romelu Lukaku - who spent another match on the bench.

If we're being brutally honest, it's hard to pinpoint any Chelsea attacker who has been consistently good this year. And because of that, it's hard to blame Tuchel for chopping and changing his expensively-assembled roster of attacking stars - even if it isn't likely to be helping the Blues' cause.

Woeful Werner
While Tuchel may not have finally settled on a first-choice front three, it must be clear by now that Timo Werner isn't the answer. The German failed to make the most of another chance to kickstart his Blues career. The 26-year-old struggled to get into the game and was a peripheral figure on the left of Chelsea's three-pronged attack.

Werner has been handed an unexpected reprieve this year thanks to Romelu Lukaku's woeful form, but the former RB Leipzig hotshot still looks a shell of the player that terrorised the Bundesliga during his prolific spell in Germany.

He failed to lay a glove on Brentford's resolute rearguard all afternoon. And after another toothless showing, Werner's Blues career is surely on its last legs.

Disastrous defending
Chelsea's resolute defence has formed the bedrock of their success under Tuchel - but they were uncharacteristically underwhelming in Saturday's crunch clash with the Bees.

Just minutes after Rudiger had stepped up to smash the hosts into the lead, the Londoners rearguard capitulated, shipping three goals in just 10 minutes to leave the Blues on the end of a derby day thrashing.

The defending for Eriksen's goal - that nudged Brentford into a 2-1 lead - was particularly damning, with a trio of Chelsea players handing Eriksen the freedom of SW6 to fire home

Blues best of the rest - but for how long?

Chelsea's five-point lead over Arsenal meant the Blues were never going to relinquish third spot in the table - even if they did slump to a shock defeat against the Bees. But their lacklustre display - coupled with Arsenal's recent resurgence - means that might not be the case for long.

Liverpool and Manchester City are on a different planet to the rest of the Premier League right now, but the Blues kept pace with them earlier in the season and have looked nailed on to finish in third spot.

But they'll struggle to stay ahead of Mikel Arteta's side if they repeat their performance against the Bees; something that was unthinkable just a few weeks ago.
