The draw for the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League as well as the Confederation Cup has been conducted with the four Nigerian clubs in the mix now fully aware of their opponents.

While the duo of Rivers United and Plateau United would be vying for honours in the Champions League, Remo Stars and Kwara United will be campaigning in the Confederation Cup.

In the draws made on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL champions Rivers United were drawn against Liberian side,  Watanga FC in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Both Rivers United and Watanga FC enjoyed a memorable season in their respective countries; winning their first League titles and would now be hoping to spread their frontiers to the continent.

As specified in Tuesday’s draw procedure, it is the Pride of Rivers that will host the first leg, before heading to Liberia for the second leg.

While Stanley Eguma’s men look good to get past the Liberian club, they have an arduous task making it to the group as the winner of the Rivers United vs Waranga tie will face defending Champions, Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco for a place in the group stage.

For Plateau United, they are also in a similarly tricky situation as they are billed to face AS Stade Mandji of Gabon in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

If coach Fidelis Ilechucku leads the Peace Boys past Stade Mandji in the Preliminary Round in September, they face the herculean task of facing Esperance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia for a place in the group stage

 Confederation Cup

Kwara United will face AS Douanes of Niger in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The winner of the two-leg meetings will face RS Berkane in the second round should they progress.

Remo Stars who are making a debut show on the continent have been drawn against Morocco military club Association’s Sports of Forces Armed Royal, ASFAR in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The winner of both meetings will face the winner of AAGBS of Guinea and Nouakchott CS of Mauritania.

The First leg of this preliminary round  matches will hold within the weekend of September 91-11 and the second leg set for 16-18 September.

The second round will hold between 7-9 and 14-16 October, respectively.
