OFFICIAL: Another striker leaves Chelsea
The German becomes the second Chelsea striker to return to a previous club this summer after Romelu Lukaku's season-long loan switch to Inter Milan.
Chelsea admit they have a goalscoring problem and they are in the market to get prolific strikers that can help them solve that.
However, while the London side is shopping for fresh legs upfront, those on their books are leaving for other clubs.
The latest is Timo Werner who has rejoined his former club, RB Leipzig, in a reported £25million deal, ending a frustrating two-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
Werner, 26, left the Bundesliga outfit in 2020 when the Blues activated his £47.5m release clause.
However, the German international struggled in West London netting only 10 times in 56 Premier League appearances.
The Stuttgart academy graduate was absent for the Blues' 1-0 victory at Everton on Saturday and has signed a four-year deal with Domenico Tedesco's DFB-Pokal champions.
Werner paid tribute to the Blues fans in a tweet confirming his exit, which read: "Today marks the end of my journey with Chelsea.
"At this point I would like to express my appreciation for my team-mates, the coaches and staff and especially for you, the special supporters of Chelsea.
"I felt so much love and support throughout the last two years and I will never forget how you guys stood behind me in good and challenging times.
"We lifted trophies like the Champions League together and I will always remember the song you wrote and chanted for me.
"I'm already looking forward to hopefully playing at Stamford Bridge again one day!"
In his previous stint at the Red Bull Arena, the attacker bagged 78 goals in 127 Bundesliga games between 2016 and 2020.
RB Leipzig released a statement celebrating the striker's capture.
It read: "RB Leipzig have signed Timo Werner from Chelsea with immediate effect. The attacker has signed a four-year contract until 2026 and will wear the No11 shirt, just like he did when he first started with the Red Bulls.
"The 26-year-old stormed for RB Leipzig from 2016 to 2020 and scored 95 goals in 159 competitive games. This makes Timo Werner the record goalscorer in RBL history.
