Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Joseph Dosu has backed Emilio Okoye to be in post for the 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana later this month.

The Sparta Rotterdam shot-stopper has been criticized by fans after his howler saw the Super Eagles exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in the Round of 16 stage after losing to Tunisia.

The Watford goalkeeper on loan to Sparta Rotterdam has been in good shape since joining the club after the AFCON.

Ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier against Ghana, former Nigerian goalkeeper Joseph Dosu has urged the technical team to stick with Okoye for the playoff as he has been in good form.

"Okoye has been fantastic anytime he is called upon to be in the post, Akyi and a lot of them have done so well. We believe once a goalkeeper made a mistake we castigate and call for a change. Goalkeepers do make mistakes and once there is a mistake I think he should continue. He has gone back to his club and has been keeping week in and week out. That means he is getting ready for Ghana".

Okoye has kept three clean sheets this season and is expected to be in goal for Super Eagles in the 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana.

Ghana host Nigeria at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on March 25 before the reverse fixture played on March 29 in Abuja.
