Awoniyi, Aina, and two other Forest stars to miss Saturday’s game against Luton Town

Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is “progressing well” in his recovery from injury according to the club but he is not fit for the Saturday game against Luton Town.

Awoniyi’s compatriot Ola Aina who is down with a muscle injury will also miss the Saturday game.

Awoniyi suffered a groin problem in the draw with Brentford and missed the game at Crystal Palace just before the international break. He is expected to be sidelined for about a month but could soon be back in training.

Forest could also be without full-back Gonzalo Montiel for Saturday’s clash with Luton Town. The Argentine was forced off when playing for his country against Peru this week.

Another Forest star Serge Aurier is a doubt to face the Hatters, too. He made way at half-time of the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park.

“He’s only just got back in the country,” head coach Steve Cooper said of Montiel. “We’ll assess it ourselves. We’ve seen the initial scans and it does look like a calf injury.

“Serge walked off at Crystal Palace. He picked up an injury there.

“The players who were injured before that game continue to be that way. They are not in training at the moment.

“You want everyone fit, but that’s often not the case. We’ll get ready for the game with the players we have available.

“Gonzalo has only just come back, so we’ll have to get the medics to assess it properly so we can see the extent of it. Hopefully, it’s not as bad as what it might be. It looks like a muscle injury, but we’ll wait and see.

“Taiwo is progressing well. He’s not far off some training, so let’s see how the next week goes, going into the game after Saturday.”

Other injured Forrest players including OAina, muscle injury, Nuno Tavares, groin injury, Danilo, hamstring injury, and Felipe,  knee injury have been out of action for the Reds.
