Champions League: ‘Dortmund reafy to run another 20 kilometres to beat PSG on Tuesday.’ Says Terzic

Borussia Dortmund are set to visit the Parc des Princes for the second time this season. Unlike on September 19, the Black & Yellows want to be bold and resilient, similar to how they played in Newcastle and Milan. "Now that we've made it here, we want to do better this time," announced Edin Terzic.

‘We weren't satisfied with the game here in Paris. The plan looked good, but the execution didn't work. We lacked courage in many areas,’ said head coach Edin Terzic, looking back on the first group game in September. Since then, his team has played ten more matches in this competition, two of them against PSG (a 1-1 draw at the end of the group stage, and a 1-0 win in the first leg).

"We showed that there are completely different ways to play against PSG." Above all with intensity. "Part of the success," Terzic said of the first leg, "was bringing that intensity onto the pitch. If we need to, we'll run another 20 kilometres." The approach for the final step on the road to London is this: "We have to bring respect, resilience, courage and joy if we want to achieve something great."

The BVB coach expects an opposition that will have learnt from their mistakes in the first leg. "They have a mission, we have a huge dream. We must also improve our performance." The reason? "There are lots of things we will have to do better because they will do better."

A lot will depend on how well Kylian Mbappé gets into the game. "We'll have a big job on our hands if he starts in the number-nine role again," explained Mats Hummels, adding: "You can only deal with him as a team. His pace, which he uses intelligently, means he's difficult to defend against one-on-one. Once he's gone, he's gone."

But – and the 2014 World Cup winner was keen to stress this – "There are also very, very good players around him."

There was lots of talk at the press conference of parallels with years gone by.

Terzic looked back at the ultimately successful semi-finals in 1997 against Manchester United and 2013 against Real Madrid: "In both clashes, the second legs were extremely tight. I would love the parallel to be that we make it into the final – but then I'd rather it went like 1997 than 2013..."
