Award winner Osimhen available for €80m
An €80m fee would make Osimhen one of the most expensive options on that shortlist, if not the most expensive
Napoli have set an €80m asking price for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, one of the many players on Arsenal’s summer shortlist, according to a report.
James Benge of CBS Sports reports that Napoli want at least €80m (£67.4m) to consider selling Osimhen this summer.
Benge adds that Osimhen is among the many strikers Arsenal have been tracking in recent months.
An €80m fee would make Osimhen one of the most expensive options on that shortlist, if not the most expensive.
Arsenal have paid that kind of fee before, for Nicolas Pepe, but ideally, you only want to do so if you’re sure about the investment.
Osimhen is having a good season, scoring 16 goals and assisting five in 27 games in all competitions.
A cheekbone fracture absence from late November to mid-January prevented him from significantly adding to those totals.
CBS Sports previously reported that Arsenal had been extensively scouting Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez in Serie A. They added that the Gunners are searching for a young but experienced and consistent goalscorer.
Napoli paid around €80m for Osimhen in the first place, so perhaps it’s no surprise they’re hoping to recoup that kind of fee.
Meanwhile, Osimhen has been crowned Napoli Player for the Month of March for his excellent performances for the Partenopeans in March, and he has been recognized for his efforts.
Osimhen who scored four goals in the month under review has already won two awards in the Serie A.
He was Serie A player of the month last September, and he also claimed the EA Sports’ Serie A player of the month for March.
The Partenopeans currently sit third in the Serie A, four points off leaders AC Milan, with five games left.
Napoli can still win the Serie A, but it could be a tough ask. Nonetheless, if they are to break their 32-year Scudetto drought, Osimhen would play a significant role.
