Barring any last minutes hitches, recuperating Watford midfielder, Ogenekaro Etebo is expected to be part of the Nigeria squad that will prosecute Qatar 2022 World Cup playoffs against Ghana Black Stars in March,
234sportsng.com can exclusively report.
A top close aide of the player disclosed to
234sportsng.com that the hardworking midfielder has indicated his readiness to rejoin his Super Eagles teammates when Nigeria square up against Ghana in the playoffs.
The former Stoke City star was expected to miss 17 EPL matches after he tore his muscle during a clash against Newcastle last September, and was reported to be sidelined for five months.
But the midfielder has sped up his recovery and would be in line for the playoffs against Ghana.
" Etebo is back and better now, and he is already training. He will be ready for Nigeria's clash against Ghana in March. I was in London to see him, and he has expressed his readiness to return by February," his close aide told
234sportsng.com.
Etebo was a regular under former Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, and was part of the side that won bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
He was also part of Nigeria's U-23 Dream Team that won bronze at the Rio Olympics in 2013.
It remains to be seen how coach Augustine Eguavoen or maybe Jose Peseiro intends to integrate the midfielder into his newly-look Super Eagles that crashed out in the second round of AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.
