Armed robbers attack Sunshine as 3SC condemn the unfortunate of Akure incident

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Sunshine Football Club of Akure, were on Thursday attacked by armed robbers along Benin/Ore road, Ondo State.

It was gathered that the club’s bus which was traveling for an engagement was attacked and the Ball Boy on board was hit by a bullet.

A source disclosed that the Team Manager and some members of the club’s management team also sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to the hospital.

In a statement by the club, the Media Officer, Sunshine Stars FC, Michael Akintunde, who confirmed the incident said some players of the club sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, Shooting Stars management has expressed sadness over the attack on the Sunshine Stars bus by suspected hoodlums.

The Oluyole Warriors described the incident as disheartening.

“We received the news of the attack on our brothers, the Sunshine Stars, by suspected hoodlums along Ore- Benin road while traveling to honour Saturday’s NPFL matchday 13 fixture against Bendel Insurance in Benin with sadness and shock,” the club wrote on its X handle.

“Most disturbing are the injuries sustained by the Team Manager and backroom staff of the club, who were shot by the attackers, as well as some players and other officials.

“Our heart is with our brothers as they go through this horrible experience and we wish the injured officials quick recovery.

“May God in his infinite mercy, continue to guard and protect us in all our journeys.”

Sunshine Stars are billed to play Bendel Insurance on Sunday.

He said those injured were subsequently rushed to the nearest hospital for emergency medical attention.

He disclosed that men of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) assured them of rescuing the injured ones.

The statement reads in parts: “It saddens our hearts to inform Nigerians, especially football lovers that our team was attacked a few minutes ago along Ore-Benin Expressway to honor an Elite League tie, against Insurance of Benin, scheduled for this weekend.

“Our ball boy was shot in the horrible attack, Our team manager and other club officials including players are seriously injured.

“It took the intervention of officers of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) to rescue the injured officials and the shot individual to a nearby hospital. We hope you join us in prayers.”
