Afcon 2023: Man of the Match Osimhen said capitalizing on Ivorian errors gave Eagles victory

Super Eagles superstar Victor Osimhen who was named Man of the Match in Nigeria’s victory against hosts Cote d’Ivoire has revealed that capitalizing on their opponent's error gave the team victory.

Jose Peseiro’s side defeated the hosts 1-0 with William Troost-Ekong netting the winning goal from the spot in the 56th minute.

Osimhen was in action for 88 minutes before he was replaced by Paul Onuachu.

The 25-year-old has scored one goal in two games at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The three-time champions now occupy the second position in Group B with four points from two games.

The Super Eagles will face Guinea-Bissau in their final group game next Tuesday.

Speaking after the Osimhen the three-time champions defeated the hosts because they took over the midfield.

“It was a difficult game. Cote d’Ivoire is a difficult opponent but we got our tactics right today,” Osimhen said in the post-match press conference.

“The plan was to wait for them in midfield and capitalize on their mistakes. It worked well for us.

“This is a big win for us and we have to build on this in our next game.”
