Yusuf Alli inspects land donated by Itemuagbor for Sports Facilities

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission Yussuf Alli over the weekend travelled to Okpekpe to inspect plots of land donated to the Edo State Government by Mike Itemuagbor, the convener of the Okpekpe 10km Road Race.

The land is for the building of sports facilities for the State and Okpekpe10 km Road Race.

Alli during his visit to the plots of land situated at Okugi Quarters, off Palace Road, Okpekpe- Agenebode Road, said this is a good development and will add to the glory of not only the race but also the state.

"I want to say a big thanks to my brother, Itemuagbor for this gesture - this is a testament that he wants the marathon to get better and as well is aiming big for the development of sports in the state."

"This will further make the athletes feel comfortable and reduce the stress they have been passing through in the previous editions."

"This year's edition will surely be a better one than the former as we are daily putting things in place to make everyone enjoy the race."

"Once again, on behalf of the state government, I want to say a big thanks to Mike Itemuagbor for this great gesture."

The Chairman was accompanied to Okpekpe by the Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State Governor on Sports, Comrade Omokhagbor Sixtus who is also from the community. 

Okpekpe, the first road race in West Africa to be granted a World Athletics rating in 2015 and one of only seven in Africa to be awarded a World Athletics Elite Label, will take place on Saturday, 28th May 2022 with runners expected from Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda, Morocco, Israel, Bahrain, Morocco and Nigeria.
