UPDATE: Super Eagles defender escapes death

By Samuel Ayodeji

After losing consciousness twice on the pitch on Saturday, there is now some cheering news on the health status of Super Eagles defender Valentine Ozornwafor.

The Nigerian central defender was knocked down by Dante Vanzeir, just before the break in the match between Charleroi and Union Saint-Gilloise.

A blow that earned the Union striker a logical exclusion and sent the Charleroi defender to the hospital.

The first exams passed by the Nigerian are however reassuring, as Edward Still explained at a press conference.

He said: "He is stable, he went to the hospital and the first scans did not reveal a fracture, which is rather positive. The most worrying thing is that he lost consciousness because it is the first sign of concussion. But he is accompanied by the club's medical staff and, at the moment, we are rather calm and confident, but we still have to wait to find out more."

Though Chalorei were hammered 3-0, they would take consolation in the improving health of their Nigerian defender who could have lost his life if not well-taken care of.

Ozornwanfor joined Charleroi on loan from Turkish club, Galatasary and the former youth International has two caps for the Super Eagles.
