Serena wants to buy a WNBA club

Although WTA legend Serena Williams has hung up her racket, the American is still actively involved in other ventures outside of tennis. Williams has become an investor in the sporting world and recently disclosed she would like to be interested in owning a WNBA team.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion retired in 2022 and has since increased her activity in her other ventures. Williams has established her fashion line but is still involved in the sporting world.

The 42-year-old also has stakes in soccer club Angel City FC and golf franchise Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), as her portfolio continues to grow.

In an interview with CNN, Williams expressed she was "super interested" in adding a WNBA team to her portfolio. With the WNBA Draft taking place within the next week, interest in women's basketball is at an all-time high after a successful NCAA tournament that broke all kinds of viewing records

"I absolutely would be (interested)," said Williams. "With the right market, I would be super interested in that. There is no risk (factor). Women’s sport is exciting, women are exciting to watch. What’s the difference? … I think that even more people watched the college women’s basketball than the men. So I think that people are realizing that is exciting to watch.”
