Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi won with their respective teams on Tuesday night but they enjoyed different fortunes in the long run.

In the Champions League clash in Paris, PSG won a penalty in the 62nd minute when Dani Carvajal swiped on Kylian Mbappe.

Messi stepped up against his old rivals, but Thibaut Courtois did his bit, getting down low to his left to deny the former Barcelona superstar.

A minute after several miles at Old Trafford, it was totally different as Ronaldo chose not to do his iconic SIU celebration after opening the scoring against Brighton on Tuesday.

Ronaldo ended a run of six matches without a goal in all competitions with a fine solo strike. But he reacted in unusual style for the 37-year-old.

Ronaldo had received some criticism for his recent performances.

United had drawn their last three matches in all competitions heading into the visit of Graham Potter's side.

The Red Devils are in a fight to finish in the Premier League top four this season and they need Ronaldo on top of his game to fight off rivals for the final Champions League qualification spot.

Brighton were unfortunate not to be leading at half-time but for United goalkeeper David de Gea to continue his fine form in front of goal.
