No fewer than 12 coaches have beat the deadline for submission of application letters for the vacant post of head coach of the senior men’s national team of Nigeria, Super Eagles which was advertised by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last week.

The federation had five days ago declared the position of the Super Eagles head coach vacant following the expiration of the contract of former gaffer Jose Peseiro at the end of February.

In an advertisement on its website calling for applications, the NFF stated the prospective Super Eagles coach “must have proven experience at the elite level of football.”

It added that applications can be sent to the email – [email protected] or via the link – https//thenff.com/jobs/head-coach-of-the-senior-mens-national-team-super-eagle/ latest by 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Prompt News can confirm that the application of 12 coaches who want to succeed Peseiro reached the NFF secretariat in Abuja before Tuesday’s deadline.

Among the applications received by the NFF are those from the former head coach of Tanzania's senior men’s team, Taifa Stars, and ex-coach of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning team, Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, Emmanuel Amuneke; Finidi George who was Peseiro’s assistant coach and former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh.

Others who filed their applications before the deadline are: Samson Siasia, former Super Eagles head coach whose FIFA ban will soon be lifted, and Sylvanus Okpala, ex-Super Eagles assistant coach under late Stephen Keshi, and Michael Nsien, ex-USA U-16 team coach of Nigerian descent.

Also, seeking for the Super Eagles plum job are ex-international goalkeeper, Ndubuisi Egbo who is the first Nigerian coach to lead a European team to a league title after his team was crowned 2019/20 Albanian League champions and also qualified for the UEFA Champions League and António Conceição da Silva Oliveira, a former head coach of Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The 12 applications were sent to the NFF official email – [email protected] or via the link – https//thenff.com/jobs/head-coach-of-the-senior-mens-national-team-super-eagle/ latest by 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Meanwhile, NFF is faced with the task of appointing a new coach for the team before their next FIFA World Cup African qualifiers in June.
