Real Madrid to Mbappe pay €15m if he wins Ballon d’Or

With Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid edging closer and closer with each passing day, details about the contract he will be signing at the Santiago Bernabeu have started to emerge.

The Frenchman will be leaving PSG as a free agent in the summer and will be giving up huge loyalty bonuses in the process.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old will also be taking a major pay cut to sign for Real Madrid, with his wages set to drop from the monumental €72 million per year he pocketed at PSG.

A fresh report from Foot Mercato in France has provided the details of the contract that Mbappe will be signing at Real Madrid.

The report does not mention the exact length of the contract but states that it will be a long-term deal and one with handsome wages, even if they are not at the level he earned in Paris.

While Spanish media previously reported that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s wages would be around €15 million net, the French outlet is claiming that the figure will be slightly higher, around the €19-22 million mark per year.

On top of that, Mbappe is also set to receive a mammoth signing bonus once he joins Real Madrid, with the figure said to be more than €120 million. As has been reported previously, though, the entire sum will be paid over five or six years and not upfront.

Image rights were seen as a potential sticking point in negotiations, but a breakthrough could be around the corner as Real Madrid is willing to agree to an 80-20 split in favour of the footballer.

Los Blancos usually keep the image rights at 50-50 with players but are making a special provision for Mbappe, whose camp was hoping for 70-90%, which means the aforementioned proposal should satisfy them.

Apart from the usual bonuses, the report states that Mbappe’s contract will also have a special Ballon d’Or clause inserted by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

It would stipulate that the 25-year-old superstar would be owed a sum of €15 million if the Frenchman goes on to win the Golden Orb after joining the club.

Real Madrid had a Ballon d’Or clause embedded in Karim Benzema’s contract as well and had paid €1 million when he won it in 2022. The sum that Mbappe would earn stands to be much higher
