Ghana Football Association (GFA) are close to reaching an agreement with Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo to lead the Black Stars against Nigeria.

Media reports in Ghana revealed that the  GFA wants Otto to take interim charge of the team for the crucial play-off tie in late March.

GFA officials including president Kurt Okraku have already held a meeting with Otto Addo who is said to be interested.

Dortmund must, however, approve the deal for their assistant coach can travel to Ghana and start preparations for the two games.

The GFA are only interested in appointing an interim manager and will name a substantive coach after the qualifiers.

Also, there has been no discussion between GFA and former Premier League coach Chris Hughton, who is on holiday in Ghana, concerning the top job which became vacant recently after Milovan Rajevac was fired.

Ghana have set sights on qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar to make up for their abysmal showing in Cameroon at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The winner of the Ghana-Nigeria tie will join four other African countries in Qatar for the global showpiece later this year.

Ghana, who have appeared at the World Cup three times, are hoping to return to the tournament after failing to qualify for the 2018 edition hosted by Russia.

Nigeria, six-time participants, were in Russia and suffered a first-round exit after finishing third in a group that contained Croatia, Argentina and Iceland.

The games will be played between March 24 and 29, 2022 with exact dates and kick-off times to be confirmed after CAF liaises with the two countries’ associations.
