Enyimba International clinched the Nigeria Premier Football League title for an incredible ninth time in their illustrious history after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Rivers United in the thrilling final game of the Super Six tournament held in Lagos.

The stage was set for an epic showdown as the two powerhouses of Nigerian football collided in a match that would determine the league champions.

From the first whistle, it was evident that both teams were determined to leave no stone unturned in their quest for glory.

Enyimba struck first in the 39th minute, sending their passionate fans into a frenzy. Ekene Awazie rose to the occasion, delivering a scintillating strike that found the back of the net, giving the People's Elephant the lead.

The stadium erupted with thunderous cheers as Enyimba celebrated their opening goal, fully aware of the significance it held in their title aspirations.

However, Rivers United, a team known for their resilience, refused to back down. Just three minutes into the second half, they found their equalizer through the talented Nyima Nwagua.

With a swift and clinical finish, Nwagua restored parity, leaving the game finely balanced and the spectators on the edge of their seats.

The match reached a frenetic pace, with both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities.

The tension in the stadium was palpable as every near miss and acrobatic save intensified the drama on the pitch.

The players displayed immense skill and determination, leaving no doubt about their desire to claim the coveted championship trophy.

As the clock ticked away, it became clear that neither team would give an inch. Despite the myriad of chances that came and went, the game ultimately ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

While it may not have been the result either team had hoped for, it was enough for Enyimba International to secure the league title, ending their drought since 2019 and etching their name in Nigerian football history once again.

For Enyimba's manager, George Finidi, this triumph marks his first title with the Aba Landlords.

After a disappointing outing last season, Finidi instilled a renewed sense of belief and resilience in his squad, leading them to this glorious victory.

His tactical prowess and ability to inspire his players have been instrumental in Enyimba's resurgence, and he will forever be remembered as the man who guided them back to the summit of Nigerian football.

Aside from the giant trophy they were handed, Champions  Enyimba also got N100m and a ticket to the Champions League.

Remo Stars are second on the log and would also be competing for the first time in the Champions League while the dethroned Rivers United will have to make do with the CAF Confederation Cup ticket.
