NPFL: Abia Warriors and Gombe United explain poor performances in the 2022/23 season

Abia Warriors Technical Adviser, Erasmus Onuh, believes that his team has still been unlucky with injuries this season.

The Warriors defeated Gombe United 3-1 at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Thursday.

Samson Obi netted a brace before Paschal Nwabueze added the third towards the end of the game.

David Nnaji scored the lone goal for Gombe United in the game.

Onuh said the team is still yet to reach its peak due to injuries in the team.

“The team is firing on half cylinder because most of the players are injured,” he told the club’s media.

“The team is depleted because of injuries, the players on the ground are playing in different positions just to make up for the injured once.”

Abia Warriors moved up to eighth position on the table following the win.

Elsewhere, Gombe United head coach Mohammed Babaganaru has attributed the team’s poor run of form to a lack of support from the state government.

Babaganaru said the players have failed to deliver because of the fatigue from their poor traveling arrangements.

He revealed that the team struggled to travel for away matches.

Gombe United have recorded one point from eight away games.

“Physically the boys are not working because of the fatigue because we have continued to arrive late for away matches,” he told reporters.

“The Gombe State Government is not encouraging, we always struggle to travel for away games.

“If the government is ready they should come and help the club the major problem with the team is finance because the team lacks motivation.”

Gombe United suffered a 2-1 loss against Abia Warriors at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Thursday.

The Savannah Scorpions dropped down to 14th position on the table following the defeat.
