Football superstar Lionel Messi didn’t care about the boos in his final game for Paris Saint-Germain as the French league champion lost to Clermont 3-2 on Saturday.

PSG supporters booed Messi when the Parc des Princes announcer read his name on a warm evening. A few minutes later, Messi walked onto the field with a smile on his face, holding his three children’s hands before the team photo and kissing them on their foreheads before kickoff.

“I would like to thank the club, the city of Paris and its people for these two years. I wish you all the best for the future,” Messi told the club website.

In two seasons at PSG, Messi won two French leagues and the French Champions Trophy and notched 32 goals and 35 assists in all competitions.

Messi scored in a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg a week ago to help PSG clinch a record-extending 11th French league title. By notching a 496th career league goal, the Argentine genius also broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s scoring record for Europe’s top five leagues.

The World Cup winner didn’t sign the contract extension that Qatar-backed PSG offered him and has been strongly linked with a move to a Saudi club where he could earn more money than Ronaldo.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabian side Al-Hillal are reportedly set to announce the signing of Lionel Messi on Tuesday, June 6, after Paris Saint-Germain confirmed his exit from the Ligue 1 club.

Messi had been linked with a sensational return to Barcelona, but a source close to Al-Hillal says that a deal with the 35-year-old will be confirmed on Tuesday - according to Spanish news outlet, SPORT.

The same source states that Al-Hilal are expecting a 'definitive yes' on June 6 and that they have 'prepared all of the necessary paperwork' to announce his signing on the same day.

SPORT have also stated that Al-Hilal are offering Messi €400million (£345m) per season to play for them - which is £170m more than what Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be earning at Al-Nassr. A move to Saudi Arabia would see Messi face-off against his long-term rival and former Manchester United forward, Ronaldo - who is currently playing for Al-Nassr.

The pair have spent most of their careers locked in a competition - with fans looking at who can score the most goals, win the most trophies, break the most records across the course of their careers.

Now Messi and Ronaldo will be in direct competition. The last time they were playing in the same league was when Messi was at Barcelona and Ronaldo at Real Madrid in Spain at the peak of their powers. Therefore, it would interesting to see them go head-to-head once again.
