Man Utd wants to sign Osimhen but PSG is still undecided on the Eagles striker

Man Utd wants to sign world-class Super Eagles star Victor  Osimhen according to Italian journalist  Malu Mpasinkatu.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Mpasinkatu said that Manchester United are "on" the chase for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but they aren't alone in that respect.

"From the information I have, at the moment there is talk of Thuram at PSG instead of Mbappe. The Nigerian (Osimhen) has already played in France; his goal is the Premier League. Manchester United are on him as well as Chelsea. David? He could be the right profile to replace Osimhen, he is young but has been playing in Europe for several years.

"He has different characteristics from Osimhen, but he is very strong. Lille are an expensive club, but it’s unlikely that the players they sell do badly."

Osimhen has long been seen as a possible addition for United and he could be a sensational signing, considering his brilliance in a Napoli shirt over the past couple of seasons. In total, the Nigerian has scored 74 goals in 128 appearances for the reigning Serie A champions.

He has also been described as a "world-class" player by Jose Mourinho, with the former United manager saying during his time at Roma: "[Diego] Llorente struggled against [Joshua] Zirkzee but today he won lots of duels against a world-class striker in [Victor] Osimhen, beating him to the ball and pressing him well."

Meanwhile, contrary to reports that Paris Saint-Germain have offered Napoli striker r Osimhen a four-year contract worth €13m, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says there is no talks between the French champions and the player.

Recently, Italian publication, Il Matino, reported that Osimhen was close to joining French giants Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli for a fee of €120m and was set for a bumper salary rise.

Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille in 2020, signed a new contract in December that saw him earning a monthly salary of €1.5m, almost doubling his previous earnings.

The Nigeria international, who has a £113m release clause in his Napoli contract, has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers by top clubs across Europe after scoring 31 goals in 39 appearances last season and guiding Napoli to their first-ever league title in over three decades.

It is as a result of this that Il Matino confidently stated that the Nigerian was on the verge of signing for PSG, where the man from Lagos is set to earn an annual salary of €13m after signing the four-year deal currently on the table.

In response to rumours about Osimhen being close to signing for PSG, Romano said on Substack, “From what I’m told at the moment, nothing is advanced and PSG have made no decision on whether they want to go for a center-forward or a different kind of player.”

Romano’s comment will come as a big relief to Premier League trio Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal, all of whom have been linked with the Nigerian.

While he has not been as prolific as he was last term when he finished as the Serie A top scorer with 26 goals, Osimhen still boasts of decent numbers considering how much Napoli has struggled.

He has 15 goals and four assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
