News that Tottenham may sign Manchester United captain Harry Maguire this summer will delight many of the club's fans in Nigeria who see the English defender as the weakest link in the team's defence.

New Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will be itching to cling onto in-demand Harry Kane as a matter of priority this summer.

The England captain is wanted by Man Utd and Real Madrid.

But Spurs are hoping a stroke of genius could keep him in North London.

Kane has previously recommended Three Lions pal Maguire to the Tottenham brass.

And, according to the Telegraph, Spurs are mulling over a move for the centre-back.

Maguire, 30, slipped down the United pecking order under Erik ten Hag last season, with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof preferred.

The ex-Leicester and Hull centre-back has been linked with a summer move away.

And Tottenham have thrown their hat into the ring - along with Newcastle - to bolster their defensive ranks, with Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet and Cristian Romero the preferred centre-backs in 2022-23.

Maguire has also been tipped to be included in a player-plus-cash deal which would see Mason Mount join United from Chelsea.

The England defender made just 16 appearances in the Premier League last season - including just eight starts.

A move could do his career the world of good - for both himself and Spurs.

Kane is believed to be keen to stay in England as he targets Alan Shearer's Premier League goals record.

Real Madrid are confident they can land their man, keeping their No9 jersey free - despite Kane preferring Luka Modric's No10 - after Karim Benzema's departure.

Kane will be desperate to finally end his career-long trophy drought.

But a chance to team up with England mate Maguire under Postecoglou could convince him to stay - at least for another season.
