The Irish-born Ghanaian manager is currently in the country for a family visit and his arrival in the West African country is coincidental with the appointment of a Black Stars coach.
After the sacking of Milovan Rajevac last week following Ghana's disastrous campaign in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, the search for a new coach is underway with the 2022 World Cup play-offs fast approaching in March.
Reports went rife in the media that the former Northampton Forest manager has arrived in the country and is leading the race to be the head coach of the Black Stars.
However, a close source to Hughton has revealed to the media in Ghana that the former Newcastle United coach is back home for a visit and has not met or discussed anything with the Ghana Football Association concerning the Black Stars job as of now.
He had planned to visit the country in December but had to postpone due to COVID-19 issues.
Hughton was spotted with the father of Chelsea star Callum Hudson at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Sunday.
Reports indicate he was a meeting to persuade the family of Hudson-Odoi to switch nationality to play for the Black Stars.
