Harvest of cash for Napoli after winning Scudetto and performance in Champions League

Napoli had to wait 33 years to win the Scudetto again and now the club will receive a hefty reward for the achievement, although bonuses will also need to be paid.

The Partenopei mathematically secured their league title with a 1-1 draw over Udinese earlier this week, sparking wild scenes of celebration in the Campania capital, some of which likely haven’t subsided just yet.

Napoli were not expected to win this season after losing a number of talismanic figures last summer – like Kalidou Koulibaly and Lorenzo Insigne – but new arrivals like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Kim Min-Jae immediately proved themselves to be amongst the best in their position, helping Luciano Spalletti’s side charge to the league title.

La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights how the total market value of the Napoli squad has risen from less than €450m to around €640m, a symptom of their electric success this season.

The team picked up €75m from the Champions League, having been eliminated in the quarter-finals by Milan, and could’ve earn around €100-110m had they won the competition. Winning the Scudetto earns Napoli €23.4m from Lega Serie A and a further €10m from UEFA.

Now Napoli will have to pay up on the various Scudetto bonuses included in player and staff contracts. Smart work by Aurelio De Laurentiis means the club will only have to pay out around €5-6m, which is largely covered by the Scudetto bonuses included in various sponsorship deals.

For comparison, when Inter won the Serie A title in the 2020-21 season, they had to pay out around €26m in bonuses.
